🦋🦋How Human Activities Impact/Destroy the Environment🦋🦋

Welcome 👦👧boys and girls to another class. Today, we will be going on an adventure where we will be exploring the topic: The Impact of Human Activities on our Environment. Read all given information and do the activities below.

How Human Activities Impact/Destroy the Environment?

What are human activities?
Things people do every day, like building houses, farming, driving cars, and making things in factories.

How do human activities harm the environment?

1.     Deforestation (cutting down trees) – People cut trees for wood and to clear land. This destroys animal homes, causes soil to wash away (erosion), and makes the air dirtier.

2.     Pollution – Smoke from cars and factories dirty the air. Chemicals and garbage dirty the water. Too much plastic harms animals like fish and birds.

3.     Littering and Waste – Throwing garbage anywhere makes places ugly and can hurt animals. Too much waste fills up landfills.

4.     Farming – Using too many chemicals (fertilizers and pesticides) can poison the soil and water. Overgrazing by animals can make land dry and bare.

5.     Fishing and Hunting – Catching too many fish or hunting too many animals can make some species disappear (become endangered).

6.     Building and Mining – Digging for minerals and building roads and cities destroys habitats (animal homes) and changes the land.

7.     Climate Change – Burning fuels like gas and coal releases gases that trap heat, making the Earth warmer. This melts ice, raises sea levels, and changes weather.

Boys and girls let us watch the video clips on how human activities destroy the environments👇

10. Why is too much fertilizer on farms bad for water?
A. It makes water taste sweet
B. It can pollute rivers and kill fish
C. It makes water freeze
D. It helps fish grow

11. What happens when too many fish are caught from the ocean?
A. Fish grow bigger
B. There may be fewer fish left for the future
C. The ocean gets cleaner
D. More fish appear

12. Which human activity most directly causes climate change?
A. Planting trees
B. Burning fossil fuels like coal and gas
C. Walking to school
D. Recycling plastic

13. How does mining harm the environment?
A. It makes the land greener
B. It destroys the land and animal homes
C. It cleans the water
D. It plants new trees

14. A town wants to build a new road through a forest. What is the BEST way to reduce harm to animals?
A. Build the road anyway and ignore the animals
B. Plan the road to avoid important animal habitats
C. Cut down all the trees first
D. Fill the forest with water

15. A river near a factory turns dark and fish are dying. What is the MOST LIKELY cause?
A. Too many people swimming
B. Waste from the factory entering the river
C. Too much rain
D. Fish moving away

16. (DOK 3) Why is it better to recycle paper than to throw it away?
A. It saves trees and reduces waste
B. It makes paper heavier
C. It creates more garbage
D. It uses more energy

17. A farmer notices his soil is getting poor. Which human activity is MOST LIKELY the cause?
A. Planting different crops
B. Overgrazing animals and using too many chemicals
C. Watering the plants
D. Letting the land rest

18. Which of these actions would help BOTH the environment and animals?
A. Cutting down forests for farms
B. Creating protected areas (parks) for wildlife
C. Throwing garbage in the sea
D. Burning more coal

19. A student says, "My family recycles, so pollution is not a problem anymore." What is the BEST response?
A. Recycling alone is not enough; we must also reduce waste and pollution
B. Recycling solves all problems
C. Pollution does not exist
D. Recycling causes pollution

20. Which plan would BEST help a community reduce air pollution?
A. Build more factories
B. Encourage people to walk, bike, or use buses
C. Burn more garbage
D. Cut down more trees

 Task 2: Answer all questions.

Scenario 1: The River Problem
A village near a river notices that the fish are dying and the water looks dirty. A new factory opened near the river last year. (a) What human activity is likely causing the problem? (b) Suggest TWO things the village can do to protect the river.

Scenario 2: The Forest and the Birds
A company wants to cut down a forest to build a shopping mall. Many birds and animals live in the forest. (a) Explain how cutting the forest will affect the animals.
(b) Give ONE way the company could build the mall while causing less harm to the animals.

Scenario 3: The Plastic Beach
Students visit a beach and find it covered in plastic bags and bottles. They see a turtle tangled in plastic. (a) How does plastic on the beach harm sea animals?
(b) What can the students do to help solve this problem?
Task3: Use the words from the word bank to complete each item.

Word Bank: deforestation | pollution | recycle | climate change | habitat | endangered | erosion | fossil fuels
